ACAP’s Access to Home program provides home adaptations and alterations that enable Albany County residents with disabilities to remain or return to their own homes rather than enter or remain in more costly and restrictive institutional settings.
A professional ACAP staff member makes adaptation recommendations to help make the home safer and more comfortable. Improvements are then made based on those recommendations. Total cost may not exceed $25,000 per unit.
Qualifications
ACAP's Access to Home services are available to both renters and homeowners who have permanent physical disabilities or experience difficulties with daily activities. This program is designed to assist people of all ages, including elderly who are no longer able to easily move in their own homes. Total household income cannot be greater than 80% of the local area median income [120% of area median income for disabled veterans]. In Albany County this typically requires household income to be less than $45,000/year. Call ACAP's Housing & Energy Services Department at 518.463.3175 ext. 2 for current income limits.
